Turkey: Islamic Education

In the October 1 issue of Salar, it was reported that Government schools in Turkey have started imparting Islamic education after a period of 90 years. The Government has decided to start the Imam Hatpiece School where Imams and Khatibs would be trained. Quran classes are being started in all schools. A previous attempt at bringing religious education to Government schools in Turkey was thwarted by secularists in 1990. The report quoted Parliamentarian Ali Boga as saying that there is a need for training Imams and Khatibs in order to propagate Islam.
